My Green In-Between
Beyond my pillow and my desk,
Lies something grand and picturesque!
A secret lane where bees carouse,
And nodding blossoms gently drowse.
I snap a picture of a bee,
Chat with any neighbours I see.
No longer strangers passing by,
We watch the busy Hoverfly.
Away from chores and indoor care,
We weave our stories through the air,
A little patch of dirt and grace,
My favorite, friendly, safe, Third Space!
“Third Space” is a sociological concept for a welcoming, neutral community space distinct from home (the first space) and work (the second space). Our laneway garden is the absolute perfect example of this—a gathering hub where neighbours connect and build bonds.
Today, for Terri’s The Flower Hour #43 challenge, please join me for an August Amble through my beloved Third Space:

Western Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)

Peck’s Skipper (Polites coras)

Beloved by birds, its fruit is called Dragonberries.

Common Eastern Bumblebee (Bombus impatiens)

Ligated Furrow Bee (Halictus ligatus)

Thanks to Terri for so generously making this week’s challenge eminently feasible for us all. No need to “creatively interpret” this week — something I seem to have done a lot of, lately! This was fun, thanks Terri. Her post is abfab, and she’s featuring two blossoms I’d never seen before. Please visit her blog, you’ll be so happy you did, promise:
