Whimsical Waltz

Finding a creek bank painted with pale yellow Sulphur Cinquefoil, and watching its lively hoverfly visitors is always a wonderful summertime discovery. The plant has a slightly fuzzy stem and its blossoms have very delicate, heart-shaped petals. They draw Hoverflies by the droves which is wonderful because the more pollinators, the better.  Plus, they devour aphids!

Whimsical Waltz

High on the verdant bank where waters run,
Five heart-shaped petals reach up for the sun.
Painted in shades of a soft butter-cream,
Potentilla shines by the wandering stream.

Hovering on his invisible breeze,
Dressed up in stripes to resemble the bees,
A quick wee acrobat dances on air—
Busy Leafwalker, pirouetting there.

They meet in the quiet, a whimsical pair,
Dancing a waltz in the warm summer air.
