There is nothing quite like that rush of excitement when nature decides to put on a little show just for you. This afternoon, two teeny-tiny, spotted fawns confidently walked out of the woods behind our home, noshing away while we watched. ‘Though there was no sign of Mum, we think they are perfectly safe! Mother deer often leave their fawns alone so they don’t draw predators toward them with their own scent. These siblings are most likely “babysitting” each other ’til Mum returns at dusk.
Carolinian Banquet
Out from the shadows of the tall, whispering trees,
Two spotted wee fawns, with wobbly knees.
No mother in sight, no worry in mind,
Just the tastiest treasures they happened to find!
They nosh and they nibble, so quiet and bold,
A sighting of magic and sunlight of gold.
A twin-fawn surprise at the edge of the wood—
I’d stay and watch them forever if I could!
