Fancifully, “False Dragonhead”.
The Obedient Plant gets its name because you can manually swivel its individual blossoms to the left or right, and they will “obediently” stay in that exact position. Being, at first, a skeptic, I tested this theory several times, and on each of those occasions it worked perfectly. Obedient! It is always a happy surprise when I spot this pale pink/mauve beauty. Today’s shots were taken in the pannes at Presqu’ile Provincial Park.

Pastel Petals in Presqu’ile’s Pannes
Inside the pannes where waters gleam,
A sudden, sweet, and quiet dream—
Where cattails sway and shallows sink,
Rise tapered spikes of mauvish pink.
A gentle touch, a floral test,
They turn to east or face the west,
And, ever pliant to the hand,
They stay obedient to command.
Yet rooted in the watery clay,
Their dance an untamed, windswept sway;
A marsh-born secret, fair and free,
A quiet, blushing mystery.
