There is a joyous humming in our laneway garden as bees galore feast on the pollen and nectar in the masses of Cutleaf Coneflowers. An absolute haven (and heaven) for our local pollinators, and pure delight for me.

Garden Gold
Upraised against the summer sky,
Golden coneflowers reach up high.
With lobed and leafy stems they stand,
A beacon in this garden land.
The petals bright, a sunny hue,
Are dancing in the morning blue,
‘Round and around the blossoms go,
A living, breathing, buzzing show.
The bumblebee in velvet coat,
Emits a low, contented note,
While honeybees on hurried wings,
Drink nectar from these yellow rings.
From drooping petals to cone’s crest,
The hive’s workers can never rest,
Their pockets packed with pollen dust,
A golden season’s sacred trust.
So long as summer suns look down,
Upon the garden’s leafy crown,
The laneway blooms will hum and gleam,
A pollinator’s waking dream.
’Til next time, y’all…
