My Orange Surprise
I stepped into the lane today, on a quiet little quest,
To find a striped and buzzing bee, a tiny garden guest.
But hiding in the zinnias, dressed in velvet, gold, and ink,
Sat a lovely Painted Lady, sipping down her nectar drink!
She didn’t fly, she didn’t flit, she didn’t even care,
That I was standing close to her, just soaking in the air.
She posed upon her petal throne, a model proud and still,
While I clicked a dozen photos to my happy heart’s fulfill.
Perhaps she came from far away, across a windy sea,
But she paused her grand migration to spend some time with me.
A bright and orange surprise today, a joy upon the breeze—
Who needs to find a little bee, with miracles like these?
