Vetchling’s Variation

There’s no happier surprise than to walk out to our garden in springtime and see a clump of Vetchlings in full, glorious bloom. Spring Vetchling is an herbaceous perennial in the legume (pea) family. It is native to European and Siberian woodlands.

A couple of fun facts:

This beauty is a self-feeding phenom! Its roots pull nitrogen directly from the air to enrich their soil; and
Folklore has it that a gift of these flowers to a loved one ensures a lifetime of adoration and devotion.

Vetchling’s Variation

Before the summer canopies unfold,
A quiet wonder starts to bloom,
In shades of deep magenta, bold,
Dispelling winter’s lingering gloom.

A clustered crown of gentle peas,
That nods beneath the morning sky,
And whispers secrets to the breeze
As golden bumblebees fly by.

Then as the fleeting April fades,
The petals steal the twilight’s hue,
And shift throughout the woodland shades
To soft, enchanting sapphire blue.
