
Blue Jays are very intelligent (if loud) birds but often, in our woods, they seem to be a wee bit mischievous. Tricksters, perhaps. For all the world, after a bit of a ruckus in the branches, these two looked to be having a bit of a lovers’ tiff.
Cerulean Snub
A cerulean snub! A cobalt cold-shoulder!
As the afternoon sun made our woods look older,
He sat still as a statue, a crest full of pride,
While she took to the air in a huffified glide.
“I’m leaving!” she squawked, with dramatic flap and flare,
Parting from him on his branch to just sing and stare.
