The Petty Josie Pye-Weed

Spotted Joe-Pye Weed (Eutrochium maculatum)
Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus)

I suspect that every lover of the Anne books automatically thinks “Josie” when finding or identifying Joe-Pye Weed.  So, as a bit of a humorous nod to Anne’s notorious rival from Avonlea:

The Petty Josie Pye-Weed

A rosy spray of Josie Pye,
Stands crisp and proud beneath the sky.
It holds its head with haughty grace,
The vainest weed in all the place!
A Monarch lands—a velvet king—
And graces her with painted wing.
He sips his juice, then flies away,
And ruins Josie’s perfect day!

‘Til next time, y’all…

  1. This is such a fun nod to Avonlea. Your poem catches Josie’s petty pride perfectly, especially when the Monarch ruins her day.

    1. Thank you! I’m a huge LMM fan! xx

      1. Me, too. I even have a cat named Josie‑Pye. lol

      2. Maybe we’re kindred spirits… xx

      3. Well, as Anne would say, the world is full of kindred spirits if you know where to look.🩷

      4. 💕 Exactly! 💕
