Introduction to Joyspotting

A decade or more ago, a friend recommended a hiking and photography tool to me —  Joyspotter’s Guide — which is simply twelve prompts for things to watch for whilst out walking.  This thought-provoking and inspiring document was created by the oh-so-delightful Ingrid Fetell Lee, whose website is Aesthetics of Joy.  Not only does she make the guide freely available to everyone, but she encourages her readers to spread the word.

A group of my photography friends and I started using Ms. Lee’s Joyspotter’s Guide on our walks and hikes at Presqu’ile Provincial Park, the goal being to capture an image that fit each of the twelve prompts.  To a soul, each one of us found it extremely helpful.  We all have our photography peculiarities; perhaps you’re a birder and are always looking up, perhaps you’re a wildflower enthusiast and are always looking down.  Perhaps you approach your hike like a rucking march — all focus on reaching the destination where you’ll best find the wildlife species you’re after.  For each of us, being mindful of finding all twelve objects was a game-changer and had us searching for, and shooting things that were far removed from our usuals.

Ever since that first summer, I’ve kept a copy of the guide in my camera bag.  I try to create a blog post around it about once each month during the summer.  One of my favourite Joyspotting adventures each year is the spring episode…. Watch this space, the first post will be coming very soon.

#1 Look Up
#2 Look Down
#3 Keep An Eye Out For Color
#4 Follow The Curve
#5 Go Where The Wild Things Are
#6 Seek Out Symmetry
#7 Search For Signs Of Abundance
#8 Watch For Weirdness
#9 Zoom In
#10 Notice The Invisible [frog song]
#11 Take The Scenic Route
#12 Use All Your Senses [smell]

’Til next time, y’all…

Note:  Today’s images are all from previous Joyspotting outings.

hi Pam – oh no! last week, I decided I felt too crowded with WP’s default settings so I bought the next plan up. Then I started tinkering with the blogs and decided I needed a new URL. that may have been what threw ppl off.
I’ll give you then new URL, I did post about it but it seems like now my blog is not broadcasting 😖😖

😀 it’s ok don’t worry i am STILL confused by WordPress even after all this time.

one thing I know; different themes play badly with other people’s themes because of how WP displays people’s sites.

i’m looking at my site now and even if i scroll upward, the little dialogue window won’t pop up to subscribe.

also, I think I may have broken my site tinkering with it :/

the one other thing I do is I go to my reader and on the left column there will be a link that says “manage subscriptions”. you can click that and put my URL in the search field box where there will be a link that lets you subscribe. let me know how that goes for you. boy I think I really messed up my WP site lol. all because I just wanted to customize it even more 😀
