The Flower Hour #18: Celebrating Lunar New Year

Welcome to the year of the horse!

Meet Beezus and Ramona:

Breton Horse (Equus ferus caballus)
Common Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
White Clover (Trifolium repens)

These sisters fit the “Flower Hour” criteria — just!  If you look very carefully, to the left of the girls is a clump of Dandelions, and to the right is a patch of white clover.

Two of the most common flowers used in Lunar New Year celebrations are the Peony and the Narcissus:

The Peony symbolises wealth and honour.

Tree Peony (Paeonia × suffruticosa)

The Narcissus symbolises a fresh start and good fortune.

Daffodil ‘Tête-à-Tête’ (Narcissus cyclamineus)
Daffodil ‘Nonesuch’ (Narcissus incomparabilis)

Thank you to Terri for another interesting, fun (and timely) challenge this week.  Always for her stunning photography (but today also for a smile!) I urge you to check out her blog post (link):  The Flower Hour #18: Celebrating Lunar New Year

’Til next time, y’all…

    1. Thank you! About 90% of the snow here has melted during the past two days – even in the woods. I know I’m impatient, but please, spring, come now! 🙂

  2. Pam, I love the gorgeous photos you shared of the flowers, but I really appreciated how you added your version of the year of the horse with that photo. I’m glad you enjoyed my fun photo!

    1. Thank you! My friend, Theresa, grew it from a seed and gave it to me for our garden. The blossoms last much longer than those of regular Peonies. xx
